TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said that he plans to create an integrated public housing complex - which will combine public facilities, such as rail stations, terminals, and markets, along with subsidized apartment blocks.
"We will attempt to integrate such facilities in order to meet the demands of the residents of such complexes," said Djarot at the City Hall on Friday, July 31, 2015.
Djarot explained that initially, his Administration will prioritise the integration of commissioned housings with markets - for example, Pasar Rumput and Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta, as well as Pasar Kebon Melati in Central Jakarta.
The focus on South Jakarta, explained Djarot, is to optimise the spread of public housings across the capital - to date, there are no public housings that residents could rent out in South Jakarta, which limits South Jakarta residents' options to buying subsidized housing units.
"This is a part of our attempt to create an integrated lifestyle, which helps us tackle two things at once - the issue of housing, as well as increasing economic opportunities," said Djarot.
