TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Based on intelligence reports, Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama discovered that the goods sold in during the Jakarta Book & Edufair event was more expensive compared to normal prices.
Ahok explained that there are two possible reasons as to why vendors participating in the event decided to raise their prices. The first reason was the prediction that this year’s event will be attended by a larger number of visitors compared to last year.
In 2014, the event was attended by 350,000 visitors. Meanwhile, this year's event is predicted to be attended by 489,000 visitors.
Ahok expressed his disappointment towards the vendors during the event's opening ceremony on Monday, July 27, 2015.
Another reason why vendors increased their prices, according to Ahok, was the fact that the event is expected to be attended by middle-to-lower income families eligible for the Kartu Jakarta Pintar (Jakarta Smart Card) program.
