TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Subdivision of Information of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Hary Tirto said that South Sumatra and Lesser Sunda islands would see the highest temperature during this year’s drought season.
“In those regions, there will be no more rain,” Hary said on Sunday (26/7).
He also said that the information had already been reported to the Agriculture Ministry and Forestry Ministry. He added that BMKG hoped that Agriculture Ministry would come up with strategic steps regarding the shortage of water supply for paddy field irrigation.
As for the Forestry Ministry, Hary said that the information was expected to raise awareness about forest fire.
Hary further said that unlike last year, this year’s drought will feel hotter and it is caused by the El-Nino phenomenon that comes along with the drought. The El-Nino phenomenon, he added, has caused very little cloud formation; thus air humidity is getting lower.
