TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Travel Agent Association (Asita) has noted a potential loss of US$108 million or around Rp1.4 trillion following Mount Raung eruption. The potential loss has racked up from Ngurah Rai Airport Shutdowon on July 10 until July 19.

“If it continues, we might as well revise our target," said Asita Chief Asnawi Bahar on Monday July 20.

Airport shutdown hits not only Ngurah Rai Airport, but also Juanda, Gamalarmo, Abdulrahman Saleh, and Blimbingsari Airport. The shutdown was due to Raung and Gamalama Eruption, notably posing threat to flights.

The missing revenue tallies up to the average of 10,000 tourists, each spending US$1,200 per day. “To make it worse, this is peak season," said Asnawi.

Asita added that travel agent is not yet equipped with force majeure procedure. Equipped with such procedure, tourists can still have alternative vacation amid disasters.
