TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Representatives Council (DPD) and the Trade Ministry officially started a campaign to encourage the public to shop in traditional markets.
The announcement of the program was held at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta by head of the DPD Irman Gusman and Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel.
"We are encouraging citizens to shop at traditional markets," said Irman Gusman on Thursday, July 9, 2015.
Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel asserted that the campaign is in line with the government's plan to revitalize and build traditional markets across Indonesia.
By supporting the program the government hopes to increase the income of local communities, and traditional markets are expected to be able to compete with modern markets.
