TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Twitter has added a new birthday feature to cater to its users. Twitter said, on Monday, July 6, 2015, with the new feature users will be able to share and celebrate their birthday with other users – complete with a colorful balloon animation.
"Your birthday is an optional part of profile and you have full control over who can see it," written by Twitter product manager Ricardo Castro on his blog.
Twitter used the comedian Kevin Hart's account, which has 20 million followers, and celebrated his 36th birthday on Monday as an example for this new feature.
This feature is the newest innovation from twitter in order to attract more users and win support with Wall Street by strengthening its revenue from ads.
Twitter, even with more than 300 million people logging in each month, is still struggling to catch up with one of its main competitors, Facebook. Facebook has four times the amount of users and eight times the revenue of Twitter. This new innovation has been linked to the sudden leave of Twitter's former CEO, Dick Costolo. Jeff Chester, Executive Director for the Digital Democracy Center, said that "this is a desperate move by Twitter, it would be interesting how Twitter can sway advertisers with this new feature."
