TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Data and Information at the National Agency for Disaster Mitigation Management, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said that the government has prepped Rp3.6 trillion for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected areas by Mount Sinabung eruption. "The fund will be used for long term as Mount Sinabung is expected to continue erupting until the next five years," said Sutopo on Monday, July 6.
Sutopo said that most of the allotted budget will be used for infrastructure, namely dam construction worth of Rp1.68 trillion. The government plans to build 100 dams to withstand the flow of cold lava from Sinabung eruption.
The budget will also be used to help construct settlements worth of Rp352.5 billion. Sutopo said that 2,053 households had to be relocated from their settlements due to the eruption.
Moreover, Sutopo said that the government has prepped Rp1.27 trillion for productive economy management.
Sutopo said that rehabilitation and reconstruction program has been set up until 2017. Currently, BNPB main focus is to construct new settlements for 307 households from three severely impacted villages.
Sinabung is noted as one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, starting to erupt in September 2013. Sinabung had its low intensity in the past couple of months, before peaking to active quite recently. The total loss of the eruption has reached Rp1.49 trillion.
