Balinese Riddles Entertain Hundreds in 37th Bali Art Festival

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cecimpedan, a riddle game in Balinese language, brought vibrant mood in the 37th Bali Art Festival which was held at Kalangan Ayodya, Taman Budaya, Denpasar, in mid June. The event attracted crowd of hundreds of people.
In cecimpedan, participants would exchange riddles to tease and make fun of each other. Languages other than Balinese traditional language are not allowed to be used.
I Wayan Sugita, one of he judges in the event said the number of participants are increasing from time to time, as well as the riddles quality. Wayan Sugita believes that cecimpedan competition is one of the means to preserve Balinese traditional language, which starts to be forgotten by modern Balinese.
A representative from Denpasar won the first place in the competition, followed by representatives from Gianyar and Klungkung.
