TEMPO.CO, Athens - Head of Information Function and Socio Cultural Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy in Athens, Greece, John Admiral, said that many Indonesian nationals working in Greece are paid half of their salaries following the financial collapse that hit the country.
"By the end of last month, many workers were paid half of their salaries. Even some of they were paid a quarter of the salaries,” John said on Friday (3/7).
John also said that Indonesians working in Greece have accepted the condition because their employers also need money.
For the record, there are around 900 Indonesians working in Greece and 85 percent of them work in informal sectors such as being domestic helpers.
Since 29 June 2015 until today, Greece has closed its banks and the banks are expected to be closed until 6 July 2015.
