TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sri Adiningsih, Chairwoman of the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres), met with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to discuss the progress and development of the Indonesian economy, and gave her advice on how to best improve Indonesia's economic performance in the future.
"We have the obligation to inform the President about how the economy is currently progressing, and we are mandated to advise the President of the ways through which we can improve our economic performance - and there are a lot of areas that needs to be improved on," said Sri at the Merdeka Palace complex on Monday, July 6, 2015.
According to Sri, Indonesia still has a lot to work on, considering that the global economy is not faring too well, especially in light of the recent development in Greece. As such, the President needs to be well informed on the ways through which the government could increase its' economic performance, to ensure that it meets its' economic targets.
With regards to the performance of ministers that are in charge of the economy, Sri claims that the Board did not discuss the matter during the meeting - that said, the fact that Indonesia's economic growth is expected to hover around 4,7 percent did become an issue that was discussed.
"We need to be able to improve our economy, as well as to maintain our economic stability. We need to discuss this openly with the government, although perhaps the exact detail we need to keep away from the public eye," said Sri, who came along with a Wantimpres member, Sidharto Danusoebroto.
When asked about the current situation in Greece, Sri said that the issue was not discussed in the meeting. "I believe that our economic condition is far better than Greece's - our financial institutions are now far more regulated and we have mechanisms in place to foresee such conditions," said Sri.
