TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Riau regional police reported that one family in Padan, Tampan district, Pekanbaru, Riau, have allegedly joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“They are now allegedly in Syria already,” said Head of Public Relations Division of Riau Police Adj. Comr. Guntur Aryo Tejo on Saturday (4/7).

According to Guntur, Riau Police Intelligent and Security Directorate received an information of a family consisting on one father (with the initial TB), a mother (with the initial YB), and a child (with the initial MJ) joined ISIS after the police received information and evidence in the forms of documents, photos, and recording of conversations between them and their families in Pekanbaru.

“We also received a recording of the conversation between YB and his brother in law,” Guntur said.

However, police did not revel the identity of their family in Pekanbaru.

According to Guntur, TB has joined ISIS since 2013.  Six months later, TB returned to Pekanbaru to take his child and wife to Syria through Jakarta-Turkey route and then continued to the Syria border in Hatai.

“In Hatai, they were picked up by ISIS by land ,” Guntur said.

Following the find, Riau police said that they have taken preventive and control measures to the residents.

Along with community figures, Guntur said, the police have given understanding to the people to reject ISIS teachings.

“ISIS is not in line with Pancasila and Islamic teachings,” Guntur concluded.
