TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sport and Youth Ministry’s football competition Piala Kemerdekaan (Independence Cup) is set to kick off on August 1. For the sake of transparency, the tournament’s organizing committee will ask Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) and the National Police (Polri) to tap all participants’ phones.
“We seek to promote transparency and accountability,” said Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi at Royal Kuningan Hotel, Jakarta, on Friday, July 3.
According to a member of Transition Team, Zuhairi Misrawi, phone numbers used by coaches, players and club managers in the event will be registered to KPK and Polri to prevent potential score manipulation scandals.
“We will ask KPK and Polri to tap phones used by coaches, players, and team managers,” said Zuhairi who added that the participants show no objection on the tapping policy.
“They are willing to sign the integrity pact."
To date, as many as 18 out of 21 participating clubs from the main division have signed the integrity pact.
