TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After officially opening the Trunojoyo Airport, regional government of the Sumenep Regency, East Java, plans to open a new airport in Kangean Island. "The location is at Paseraman Village, Arjasa sub-district," said, Mohammad Faidlah, Head of the Sumenep Transportation Agency on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Fadilah said that the airport's construction has reached 50 percent. Fadilah added that the airport will be built on a 18 hectare land.
Fadilah denied rumors saying that the location of the airport was considered to be unsuitable. Fadilah explained that the location was determined through a feasibility study and has been approved by the Directorate General of Sea and Air Transport of the Transportation Ministry.
Fadilah said that the new Kangean Airport would only be available for pioneer flights. "Although [the airport] has been approved by the Transportation Ministry, it still requires a feasibility study before the airport can be granted an operational license," said Fadilah.
