TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 30 children aged between 6 and 14 were practicing for a theatrical show performed to entertain people in their ngabuburit (spending time while waiting for break-fasting time) time.

The comedy musical play, entitled ‘Nagru Kasarung’ were performed on Sunday, June 28 afternoon at Amphitheater, Sunaryo Art Space Bandung starting from 15:00 to 17:00 local time.

The children had been practicing the play and sarong play with Hong community since Friday, June 28.

“The show is free for public,” said Chabib Duta Hapsoro, a staff of Program Division of Art Space Bandung on Saturday.

“While playing with sarong, the children learn role-playing."

According to Hong community founder, Mohamad Zaini Alif, sarong is not originated from Indonesia. It is believed to have been brought by Arabian and Gujarati merchants from Yaman during 14th century.

“The function of sarong was then developed from praying attire to complimentary traditional attire for a number of tribes in Indonesia,” Chabib added.

In addition to make ngabuburit more meaningful for the children, the sarong game is also purposed to train the children’s motor skills and imagination. This can also be a means to help children socialize and teach them to be sportive.
