TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industrial Minister Saleh Husin, is aiming at decreasing the price of natural gas in order to develop the petrochemical industry in Bintuni Bay, West Papua.
"The German Company Ferrostaal, LG Chemical, and Compost Indonesia are all ready to begin production at Bintuni Bay, they are only waiting for the price and gas supplies. The most important thing is to establish the price for gas," said Saleh in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
Saleh asserted that the Papua region can become a large source of natural gas, which is critical in the development of petrochemical industry.
Potential investors have requested for government support in supplying gas, which considered as a determining factor in investment and operational activity of petrochemical industry. "Government intervention is necessary in securing a reasonable price for gas. This will ensure investment in the petrochemical industry and therefore create work opportunities," the minister said.
