June Inflation Stands at 0.54%: BPS

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the inflation rate in June 2015 stood at 0.54 percent, higher than that in the previous month at 0.50 percent.
“76 cities experienced inflation, with deflation occurred in six cities,” BPS head Suryamin said in a press conference at his office on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
According to Suryamin, the highest inflation was recorded in Sorong, reaching 1.90 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Palu, reaching 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation was recorded in Tual, which reached minus 0.80 percent.
Suryamin added that commodities that contributed to the month’s inflation include food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco, in addition to transportation, communication and financial service sectors.
June 2015 core component inflation was recorded at 0.36 percent and 5.04 percent year-on-year.
“The inflation was also triggered by Ramadan,” he said.
With the inflation that stood at 0.54 percent in June, the inflation rate for the first semester of this year was recorded at 0.96 percent.
“The year-on-year inflation stood at 7.26 percent,” Suryamin added.
