TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religion Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin reported 11 unlicensed umrah travel agents to the police.  The ministry finally took the legal path towards travel agents that are allegedly causing problems in the Holy Land.

“They claimed to be a travel agents but actually do not have a license,” Lukman said Monday, June 29.

The ministry have taken assertive manner to stop fraud and neglect Umrah or Hajj pilgrims.  Besides being firm towards those unauthorized travel agents, the ministry also closely monitors licensed travel agents currently in service during the execution of Umrah or Hajj.

Towards licensed agencies, Lukman said, there will be a multilevel sanctions imposed depending on the type of errors or violations conducted.  The sanctions imposed includes a written warning, revocation of a license and imprisonment.

A number of ministry officials have also fulfilled the summoning by the Criminal Investigation Police Department as a witness in the investigation of unlicensed travel agents.  The ministry expects the entire inquiry process and investigation could go quickly so that people do not become victims of scams.

According to Lukman, a number of problems that are frequently caused by unlicensed travel agents is neglecting pilgrims in transit routes and in the Holy Land.  In fact, some of those travel agents disappeared when pilgrims can not go back home and still remain in the Holy Land.
