TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has found 59 hotspots in Riau Province as of Monday morning, June 29, as captured by the Terra and Aqua satellites.
Sugarin, the BMKG Pekanbaru Station chief, said the hotspots are scattered in 10 regions.
The province also sees an increased number in firespots to around 32, located in seven cities; Dumai, Bengkalis, Kuansing, Inhu, Rohil and Pelalawan. Pelalawan is recorded to have the most firespots, 12 in total.
In addition, the province now has a reduced visibility, averaging at two to six kilometers.
This is quite a worrisome situation, especially since Riau has not seen rain in 11 days.
The Karhutla task force team tried to create artificial rain clouds to no avail. The team has made four flights to sow flights so far.
