Jokowi Approves Lapindo Victims Compensation Fund

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Work and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, said that the president has signed a Presidential Regulation on the allocation of compensation fund for Lapindo mudflow victims in Sidoarjo. "[The President] has signed the presidential regulation and DIPA [budget utilization list]. Validation, socialization, and registration have also been conducted," Basuki said on Monday June 29, 2015.

Basuki added that the issuance of the Presidential Regulation means that the budget is set to be disbursed. However, the Financial Minister had requested for suggestion from the Supreme Court on who will sign the agreement.

Previously, the government has decided to provide a loan to PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya (MLJ), which will be used to pay compensation fee to mud disaster victims. MLJ will have to repay the loan with an interest rate of 4.8 percent within four years.
