TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini stated that the local government has built a Disaster Response Outpost to overcome a variety of disasters. The outpost is designed to be able to store any information related to a disaster in Surabaya, no matter how small it may be.
Risma added that the outpost has are several tools that can help in mitigating disasters. In addition, the Surabaya Government is currently preparing an integrated software that can be used by respective posts and agencies. The software will accommodate the transfer of information between agencies and improve surveillance efforts on any disasters that might occur.
Later, the software will also enable the Surabaya residents to exchange information on any natural disasters or accidents within the city. "In the outpost, there will be trained personnel on standby for 24 hours," Risma said.
Chandra Oratmangun, Head of the Surabaya Fire Department, said that the outpost would allow better cooperation between respective stakeholders if a disaster were to happen. "Hopefully there will be better communication, if a fire starts it will be clear what each team will be doing, one team would take care of the rescue [efforts], and the other would focus on extinguishing the fire," Chandra said.
