TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Moechgiyarto said that since the Cikampek-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road was officiated, there has been 30 accidents reported along the toll road.
"The majority of the accidents involves only one vehicles - although there has been some reports of a rear-ender, which likely to be caused by fatigue," said Moechgiyarto in Bandung on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
According to Moechgiyarto, the accidents are spread across the entire length of the tollway. "We have received reports on accidents at KM 94, KM 114, as well as other parts of the tollway," he said.
In relation to KM 94, Moechgiyarto said that the two incidents there were caused by the lack of reflective markers, which could be dangerous at night. "We have reported this to the operator of the tollway," said Moechgiyarto, who personally came to inspect the location of the incidents.
"Street lights are still sparsely installed along the length of the toll road - which is especially dangerous near bends and/or bridges. Had reflectors been installed, several of these incidents could have been avoided," said Moechgiyarto.
Ideally, reflective markers should be installed all along the toll road. "However, the units are quite expensive - perhaps that is the reason why the units are only sparsely installed along the toll road," he said.
