Jokowi Asks BKPM to Direct Investment to Belitung

TEMPO.CO, Belitung - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has instructed the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) to direct investment in the country to Belitung industrial zone in Bangka Belitung province following the operation of the Tanjung Batu seaport.
"Here (in Belitung industrial zone) there’s an industrial zone covering an area of 1,400 hectares. I have asked Coordinating Minister for the Economy and the BKPM to direct investment to the region,” said President Jokowi after inaugurating Tanjung Batu seaport in Belitung on Saturday (20/6).
The president added that many investors have expressed their interest to develop their business in Indonesia and they have to be directed to do their business in Belitung.
President Joko Widodo also said that Tanjung Batu seaport is strategically located, that is the Archipelagic Sea Lanes of Indonesia (ALKI) (ALKI) 1. He added that there is opportunities for the seaport to be further developed after seeing the development in the next few weeks.
The President further said that providing water and fuel for ships can activities that can be developed at the seaport.
"In the next four months, we’re going to see the development. I hope this seaport can be further developed,” he said.
