Yogyakarta Bulog Prepares 4,000 Tons of Rice for Market Ops

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Yogyakarta branch has prepared 4,000 tons of rice for market operations during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Yogyakarta Bulog chief Langgeng Wisnu Adinugroho said the market operations was held at the behest of regency and city governments in the province.

“We have prepared 4,000 tons of rice for market operations. We have no problem in terms of stock,” he said in Yogyakarta on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

Langgeng said the rice allocation for the Ramadan market operations was larger than the ones in February, which saw 300 tons.

He added the increased allocation of rice was aimed at addressing the possible increase in rice prices that usually took place in the middle of the month.

“We’ve increased the allocation as public demands have been estimated to increase from regular months,” he said.

He explained the rice would be sold at Rp8,200 per kg—or lower if there was a subsidy from the province’s Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and Micro and Middle Enterprises Agency.

Langgeng said his office had also prepared 4,326 tons of subsidized rice—rice for the poor, known as raskin—that would be distributed to 288,931 target households (RTS).

“We can guarantee that for June and a few months ahead the raskin would be distributed on time,” he said.

Yogyakarta Bulog presently stores some 19,600 tons of rice—an amount viewed sufficient to meet public demands for rice until October 2015.
