TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) has not yet agreed the city administration’s proposal over Light Rail Transit. Mohamad Sanusi, Head of Infrastructure Commission, said that the project has never been a subject of discussion between the city and House, amid its using Regional Budget.
Sanusi said that light rail transit, as included in the medium-term development plan, should be first communicated with the Regional House. It is because the House needs to integrate the project with spatial plan and details.
On the other hand, Head of Regional Planning Agency, Tuty Kusumawati, said that the development was not a sudden decision and without House’s consent. He said that the project is a mandate from both executive and legislative. “We have had the discussion in Regional and National Medium Term Development Plan,” he said.
Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama also claimed that the project can help disperse traffic in Jakarta. “If they reject, I will keep on going,” said Ahok.
Nevertheless, the project rises many questions, particularly upon reflecting on the cancelled monorail project. Experts also questioned the project as it is not included in spatial planning and is not integrated with other massive transportation modes.
