TEMPO.CO, Magelang - Clatters about who will sits on Yogyakarta throne ro replace Sultan Hamengku Buwono X has inspired graffiti artist Oka Setsu to create graffiti of a big-eyed bird holding a paint spray, named Setsu.

Oka, a student of the Indonesian Institute of Art Yogyakarta, along with 14 other young artists took part in the visual art exhibition at Langgeng Gallery, Magelang, Central Java.

Oka’s graffiti is said to be a reflection of an artist who wants to be a sultan.

“It is all about it now in Yogya (Sultan’s succession),” said Oka.

The exhibition that is entitled “Neo Java” is part of 2015 Magelang Art Event series where Yogyakarta young artists collaborates with Bandung and Jakarta artists.

Etza Meisyara, a Bandung artist who exhibited Braille and musical instrument installation arts, said visual art is not only for people who can see with their eyes. It can also be translated into music. This way, everyone can enjoy visual art.

Rifky Effendy, a curator for Bandung artists said the exhibition is aimed to give chances for young artists to show off their works. According to him, young artists are generations who is in the post-market situation where demand for art works have slowed down.

“They don’t get to see the booming era of artworks, they only heard about it,” Rifky explained, adding that this condition makes the younger artists more relaxed in making their works.

“The resulting art pieces must be different too.”
