BPOM Raids Illegal Drugs Warehouse in Bekasi Shopping Center

TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Bandung Drug and Food Administration (BPOM) raided Tuesday a stall that was turned into warehouse to store illegal drugs in Bekasi Junction shopping center, Juanda Street, Bekasi City, June 9.
“We’ve arrested five people who were held accountable,” Head of BPOM Investigation Division Bandung Edi Kusnadi said Tuesday, June 9.
He has yet identify the people who has been arrest from the kiosk in the Under Ground Floor Block S No.249-252 because its still being investigated.
Officials have also seized hundreds of various drug brands that are ready to be circulated. Those drugs do not have marketing authorization and some have also exceeded the expiration date. “The place is only used as a warehouse,” said Edi.
According to Edi, the suspects have been running the business for five months and says that the drugs were distributed to a number of pharmacies in the city of Bekasi.
During the raid, officials were accompanied by personnels from West Java Regional Police.
The case emerged after reports from the society who were suspicious with their activities. They often unload in the warehouse on massive scale. “We then conducted surveillance,” said Edi.
Edi urged society to always be on the look out for illegal drug distributions and suggest that people would always consult with their doctors before purchasing medicines. “At least bring a doctor’s prescription when purchasing medicine,” he said.
