TEMPO.CO, Doha – Qatar has pledged US$50 million worth of aid to help Indonesia become a shelter for displaced Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar, according to a report by QNA as quoted by AFP.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim announced the decision when meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Doha, when the latter informed him of the joint effort by Indonesia and Malaysia to cope with the Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants.
Subsequently, Sheikh said Qatar would donate US$50 million to help Indonesia deal with the refugees.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has appealed for US$26 million to help migrants in Southeast Asia.
