TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Drought and water crisis are estimated to occur in a number of arid areas in Indonesia. These areas are known for their dry conditions with water supply deficiencies.
Syamsul Maarif, head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) yesterday said that the peak of the dry season will occur in September.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that mostly of Indonesia has entered a dry season in May and June.
BNPB's data information and public relations head Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that a massive structural mitigation coupled with the construction of ponds, weirs, and reservoirs are needed as a long term solutions to Indonesia's drought-related problems.
