TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - To mark 65th anniversary of Indonesia-Italy billateral relation, as well as to promote opera in Indonesian society, Italian Embassy in Jakarta and Instituto Italiano di Cultura is collaborating with Ciputra Artpreneur to stage combination of original Italian dance and opera on June 14.
According to opera activist Erza Styadharma, Indonesians’ interest toward opera is still low.
“For 15 years, only 20 percent of the total residents favor classic music as the root of opera. This percentage is indeed increased compared to that in 1999 when it was just ‘started’,” Erza said adding that most people think that opera is only for older people.
“This is not true. Opera show is suitable for all age segments. The 20 percent consisting of varying ages.”
The event will feature Artemis Danza, a ballet group from Italy who will perform Traviata. This art show will combine contemporary dance with classic ballet accompanied with Italian opera.
To watch this one-hour opera show, entrance ticket is applied starting from Rp250,000 to Rp500,000.
