TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Scores of residents of the Pinangsia, Ancol and Pademangan areas staged a protest in front of Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama’s house in the early hours of Wednesday.
“They demand that their homes not be demolished,” Ahok told Tempo on Wednesday, May 27, 2015.
Penjaringan district head Yani Wahyu Purwoko said the protesters lived under the Ancol flyover in North Jakarta—an area the Jakarta Administration planned to reorganize.
Yani said the protesters had been dispersed. “They don’t have a permit for the protest,” he said.
North Jakarta Public Order Agency chief Iyan Sopyan Hadi said he ordered his personnel to disband the protest in Pantai Mutiara housing complex in Pluit, North Jakarta, upon learning the the protest was held bereft of consent.
The police stopped the protest at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, which began at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Some 50 residents, most of them arriving at the location by motorcycle, took part in the protest.
Residents of the Pinangsia area organized a similar protest at the City Hall on Friday last week, when Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat met with their representatives.
