TEMPO.CO, Palangkaraya - Central Kalimantan Governor Agustin Teras Narang said that the underwater electricity project from Java to Kalimantan, with a 2x600 MW capacity, will be carried soon.
The project, he said, is a follow-up to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between him and the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, which took place on September 11, 2014.
"We both agreed to build mine mouth steam power plants in North Barito and West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan with a capacity of 2x600 megawatts. The electricity generated will be supplied to the island of Java, Central Java in particular, through a 350-kilometer submarine cable," he said on Wednesday, May 27.
Agustin hopes that the feasibility study for the power plants and the submarine cable can start immediately.
According to the governor, a number of companies have stated their interest to take part in the project and subsequently filed their proposals to the Central Kalimantan provincial government. He said their proposals will be reviewed and followed up immediately.
"So far, we have not discussed about the budget needed to complete the project. The matter will be discussed after the completion of the project's initial study," Agustin said.
