TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Paul Palele, a disc jockey and an entertainer, is assured of his physical fitness for routinely having exercise in the weekend and hitting the gym three times a week. "At least I exercise half an hour per day," said Paul during the Jakarta Professional Health Index Survey by Brand's Saripati Ayam.
"I also try to earn a proper sleep," he added.
However, the survey reveals that Paul's workout is unfortunately seen as a minority in Jakarta, as only half of workers in Jakarta do similar routine. "As a matter of fact, 96 percent of the respondents realize that health affect their career,” said Agus Setio Joewono, Vice President of PT Cerebros Indonesia.
Their survey also reveals that most of workers are trapped in traffic congestion almost everyday, which cost them nearly four hours a day. The amount of hours nearly doubles that of New York, which is only at 2.5 hours. Moreover, working deadline sometime causes the white collar people to face emotional stress due to limited sleeping time.
Even worse, some of workers in Jakarta face a wrong concept of health, believing that they are healthy. "They assume that if they are not hospitalized, they are healthy," he said. In its findings, the survey reveals that only 20 percent of the respondents routinely have medical check up.
