China Promises to Help Indonesia Find Source of Fake Rice

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chinese Trade Vice Minister Wang Shouwen promises to aid Indonesia in handling fake rice issue and finding its source as the rice allegedly originated from that country.

Wang Shouwen conveyed the matter to Indonesian Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel during Minister Responsible for Trade Meeting APEC 2015 event in Boracay Island, Philippines.

Rachmat Gobel said Sunday that Indonesia currently faces quite a huge problem by the circulation of fake rice that contains plastic in the Indonesian market.

In response to the issue, Chinese Trade Vice Minister expressed his concerns and realizes the severity of the problem that the Indonesian government faces.  Wang said the Chinese government vows to assist Indonesia in overcoming the issue.

Currently, the Chinese government only grants permission to one Chinese State-Owned Enterprise entrepreneur to perform rice exports, so it will be easier to conduct a search on the circulation of plastic rice, Wang said.

Wang also said that Indonesia is a strategic partner to the China trade.

China also expects that Indonesia could play a more active role in bridging the interest of the countries that are joined in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

RCEP is a free trade agreement (FTA) proposal between ten ASEAN country members and six other countries including Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand.
