Jokowi Calls On International Community to Aid Rohingya Migrants

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo hoped that the international community would give supports to Indonesia in handling Rohingya refugees. He also said that helping the refugees is a humanitarian action.
The statement when the President joined the car free day event at Gladak Roundabout, Solo, Central Java on Sunday.
"Giving aids to the refugees is a humanitarian action,” the President said, adding that he pledged the government would prepare a special budget to help the refugees.
"We are calculating budget needed (to handle the refugees), the President said.
However, Jokowi said that handling the refugees also needs supports from the International world, especially from the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR).
"Three days ago, there was an agreement between foreign affairs ministers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand,” he said.
In the agreement, the three countries have agreed to receive the refugees and meet their needs with the supports from the international community.
