TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor, Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, said that he wants to promote marathon among Jakarta residents by holding the Jakarta International 10K event.
"We've already prepared some prizes, which totals at around Rp 911 million. We set such large prizes in order to promote the marathon among our residents, because it is the cheapest sport to partake in," said Ahok at the City Hall on Friday, May 22, 2015.
Ahok said that it is in line with his administration's plan to popularize all kinds of sport among Jakarta residents - whose obesity rates have surpassed the national average. "We have surpassed the national average, not only in obesity, but also high blood pressure," Ahok said.
Ahok wants children and adolescents to be accustomed to healthy lifestyles - starting by not skipping breakfast, and to start doing sport on a regular basis.
At the same occasion, Nestle Indonesia's Executive Director Rashid Qureshi, said that as a sponsor of the Jakarta International 10k run, his company will continue to support the Jakarta administration's plan to integrate sports as a part of a healthy lifestyle.
"We will always assist the government in developing and advancing sports in Indonesia," said Qureshi.
