TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said that the Philippines Embassy had visited Attorney General's Office in relation to the technical preparation in the investigation of death row inmate Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso. "They came [on Thursday, May 21, 2015]. We talked about the technical details of the investigation," said Prasetyo on Friday, May 22, 2015.
Mary Jane has been sentenced to death for smuggling 2.6 kilograms of heroin at Adi Sucipto Airport in Yogyakarta in 2010. Mary Jane's execution, which was scheduled to take place on April 28, 2015, was delayed because Marie Krisrina Sergio, who allegedly recruited her as a drug courier, had surrendered.
After her execution was postponed, the Filipino Ministry of Justice asked for a chance from the to investigate Mary Jane, who is now being detained in Wirogunan prison, Yogyakarta. The attorney allowed Mary Jane to be investigated, but forbade her from being brought to the Philippines.
Prasetyo said that the time for Mary Jane’s interrogation has not been decided as the Philippines is still investigating her case. Prasetyo said that Mary Jane will be investigated after her case files has been filed.
“Mary Jane is still an Indonesian prisoner because she violated the law in Indonesia, so she will not go to the Philippines," said Prasetyo, who previously said that Mary Jane would still be executed for smuggling the drugs to Indonesia.
