TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Witono, the head of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) East Java branch, has guaranteed that the government’s rice for the deprived, known as raskin, is not contaminated with plastic rice that has been discovered recently and alarmed the people ever since.
He said according to his agency’s investigations plastic rice, which was imported from China, was not circulating in all markets in 38 regions in the province.
“There’s no such discovery in East Java. We call on the people to remain calm and maintain vigilance,” he said on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
The investigations, which were carried out in tandem with the East Java Trade Agency, revealed that the 42,000 tons of raskin distributed this month was free from plastic rice.
Witono said the raskin would be distributed to 8,200 areas in all villages in the province, and that the rice originated directly from farmers. “According to our survey, it is guaranteed that the rice is not contaminated with plastic rice,” he said.
