TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Prananda Prabowo, the son of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chair Megawati Soekarnoputri, launched Thursday a compilation of speeches by first Indonesian president Soekarno titled Setialah pada Sumbermu (Be Loyal to Where You Come from) in Jakarta.
“This book is composed with the aim of implementing the teachings of Bung Karno,” he said.
The book, published by Naraprana, consists of 11 speeches of Bung Karno on national awakening and the history of Budi Utomo.
Prananda said the country’s national awakening should not be commemorated only through events.
“There were sorrows, difficulties, challenges, setbacks and extensive sacrifices of the pioneers and initiators of the country’s independence that should always be remembered so that the country can preserve its identity and safeguard its sovereignty and independence,” he said.
Prananda hoped that through the book the aspirations, dreams, ideas and thoughts of the country’s independence pioneers would live on and become the people’s spirit and soul of struggle.
He believed speeches by Bung Karno were critical for the country to re-develop its conscience and confidence.
