TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Taru Jurug Solo Animal Reserves in Solo, Central Java, has launched an adopt-an-animal program, which would allow private companies and individuals to donate money to help fund the care of the animals in the reserve.
"We welcome anyone who would like to cooperate with us to care for these animals. Through this initiative, we hope that we could raise the profile and potential of zoos and reserves in the country," said the Director of Taru Jurig Solo Animal Reserves, Bimo Wahyu in Solo on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
Wahyu admitted that his reserves still needs to undergo some necessary improvements in order to make it more comfortable and safe for animals in its' collection, and attractive for tourists to visit.
According to Wahyu, the reserves' managers hope to establish cooperative relationships with all willing stakeholders to improve the establishment - especially considering that the reserves has limited funds that cannot be allocated to improving the infrastructure of the reserves, which lies on the bank of the Bengawan Solo river.
Wahyu added that the managers' of the reserves are ready to promote companies that has agreed to 'adopt' an animal , or has agreed to channel some funds for the renovation of the infrastructures within the reserves.
"The cost of feeding the animals itself is already high enough as it is - let alone the develoment of other areas within the reserves," said Wahyu, who called on all stakeholders - both individuals and/or companies - to pay more attention to the survival of these animals.
The scheme will allow individuals and/or companies to 'adopt' a pet by providing one year worth of food - in turn, the reserves will grant the donors access to the animals they adopted, free of charge.
