TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It has been almost 8 months that Sea World, located in Ancol Dreamland recreational park, North Jakarta have not been opened for public.
According to spokesperson of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, Metty Yan Harahap, the company’s management is still discussing the plan to reopen one of the holiday destinations in North Jakarta.
"We have not had any information on when Sea World will be reopened,” he said on Sunday.
For the record, Seaworld was closed because of a dispute between Pembangunan Jaya and Sea World’s management, PT Sea World Indonesia, over management rights.
Pembangunan Jaya Ancol lawyer Iim Zovito Simanungkalit said there was a contractual dispute between Pembangunan Jaya and Sea World’s management, PT Sea World Indonesia, over management rights.
Iim claimed that based on the contract signed in 1992, PT Sea World’s management period effectively expired in June 2014 after more than 20 years. However, the company refused to both halt commercial operations and to inform the public of its closure.
He added that Sea World claimed it would continue operations as it assumed the contract would be automatically extended until 2034.
This claim has disturbed Ancol since Sea World is operating on the complex’s land.
