TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Charlian visited SOS Children’s Village Jakarta Karya Bhakti Ria Pembangunan’s safe house to check on the conditions of five children who were allegedly neglected by his parents in Citra Gran housing complex in Cibubur, Bekasi, West Java.

“Today, I saw an impact of drug abuse,” Anton said at the safe house on Saturday, May 16, 2015.

Anton explained that drugs abuse could cause parents to neglect their children, calling it as one of many dangers posed by narcotics. Anton added that Utomo Poernomo, the father of the five children, admitted that he used crystal meth.

Anton hopes that the case could provide a lesson that child neglect or domestic violence is no longer personal problem. Anton called on public to report such a case to police.

“Any harm that affects children, wives or husbands must be reported to us,” he said.
