TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, Sudirman Said, will formally appoint five first echelon officials on Thursday. Those appointed will be posted as the Director General for Oil and Gas, Director General for Mineral Resources and Coal, Director General for Resources Conservation and Renewable Energy, Director General for Electricity, and the Secretary General for the National Energy Council (DEN).

According to Sudirman, the Ministry will proceed with the appointment after the president passed a decree approving the ministry's decision. "On Thursday, all of these technical experts will spearhead the start of a new era of management," he said on Wednesday.

Sudirman stopped short of revealing the names of the individuals that had passed the final selection phase by a team lead by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. Sudirman, however, did reveal that I.G.N. Wiratmaja Puja's tenure as the Director General for Oil and Gas, will be extended.

"The signing of the decree was witnessed by a lot of major players in the oil and gas industry," said Sudirman.

According to sources within the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bambang Gatot Ariyono is slated to replace the current Director General for Mineral Resources and Coal, R. Sukhyar, which had entered retirement on May 1, 2015; while Satry Nugraha is slated to take the role of DEN's Secretary General. Meanwhile, Jarman and Rida Mulyana is expected to continue their tenure as the Director General for Electricity and the Director General for Resources Conservation and Renewable Energy, respectively.

It is known that the selection process for these posts within the Ministry for Energy began in 2014, wherein only 30 of the total 100 applicants passed the initial selection process that consisted of the verification of minimum administration requirements.

Interviews conducted by the Selection Committee and a panel of independent judges concluded earlier this year, which narrowed the results to 15 names that had been forwarded to President Jokowi on March 27.
