TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chief of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, said that his institute cannot interfere with internal police affairs. According to Tedjo, who is also the Coordinating Law Politics and security Minister, the Chief of the Criminal Investigator Agency (Bareskrim) Comm.Gen. Budi Waseso’s removal has been entirely handed to the national police.
“Kompolnas is not in a position to interfere with internal police affairs. We are only to give advise and considerations for electing the Chief of Police,” Tedjo said in the Presidential Office on Tuesday, May 6.
The urge to remove Waseso emerged after he arrested the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan. Waseso was considered to have disobeyed a direct order from the President.
Concerning the arrest of Novel, Tedjo thinks that the matter was not Waseso’s maneuver and saw it as a normal legal process. “The important thing is that he has executed the President’s order. As proof, no one was detained,” said Tedjo.
