TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tony Spontana, spokesman of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) said that Filipino death row inmate Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso would be questioned on the trafficking that involved her and her alleged recruiter, Maria Kristina Sergio.
"We will determine the location [of the questioning] later after receiving an official letter from the Filipino government," said Tony Spontana on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.
As previously reported, the AGO does not allow Mary Jane to be investigated in the Philippines regarding the alleged human trafficking case. There are fears that Mary Jane will not be returned to Indonesia after the investigation ends. As a result, questioning will be conducted through video conference.
Mary Jane was sentenced to death for smuggling 2.6 kilograms of heroin in Yogyakarta in 2010. Mary Jane was going to be executed on April 28, but was postponed after Filipino President Benigno Aquino negotiated with President Joko Widodo.
According to Tony, the location for investigation will be at Wirogunan prison in Yogyakarta where Mary Jane is currently being detained. The date set for the investigation is from May 8 to May 14, but it can change depending on the preparation.
Tony added that facilities for the investigation will be prepared by the AGO while the Philippines will send a team of investigators to examine Mary Jane.
