TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spatial Planning and Settlement Agency (Distarkim) of Depok claimed that it cannot keep up in providing green open space demand. High rate of development is the main obstacle for the city to provide 20 percent of public green open space and 10 percent of private green open space.
Head of the Agency, Nani Zara, said that the city administration has planned to provide 4,000 hectares of green open space from 2012 to 2032, compared to the total size of the city which is at 20,029 hectares.
At the moment, the city managed to come up with only 1,804 hectares of public green open space, barely 50 percent of the target. Private green open space is also only at 50 percent.
Therefore, a massive leap in policy is needed to deal with the matter. “We need to have massive leap, from policy to budgeting," he said.
In response to such need, the mayor has come up with a set of specific regulations. Among others is the policy that obliges developer to meet 120 square meter requirement for residential space.
