TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla has confirmed that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's Working Cabinet will be reshuffled in order to increase the efficiency of his administration.
"A reshuffle is in the works, as we believe that the Working Cabinet needs its members to be assigned to the appropriate posts in order for it to function efficiently," said Kalla at the Vice President's Office in Jakarta on Monday.
The vice president, however, stopped short of confirming if there would be any minister sacked from their posts, which ministers would be reshuffled and to what post, as well as a definite timeline for the reshuffle.
"We have yet to decide on those matters, but it will happen should we think that it is necessary, and it will happen in due time, although no further discussion has be scheduled," said Kalla.
Previously, the vice president said that ministers of the Working Cabinet needed to undergo an evaluation, and that a reshuffle would happen if the results showed that a reshuffle was indeed, needed. "All ministers will be evaluated, and they will be kept in their current posts or reshuffled depending on the results of the evaluation, as opposed to surveys of such nature," he said.
A political analyst from Gorontalo State University (UNG), Rudy Harold, said it was urgent for President Jokowi to reshuffle the Working Cabinet so as to optimize the performance of the administration.
"In the past six months or so, only several ministers have shown real promise and are actively involved in dealing with current issues and administering the programs of their respective ministries—whereas the majority have simply receded into the background," said Rudy on Thursday last week.
Rudy cited the example of the current Minister for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Susi Pudjiastuti, whom he believes has shown real progress and dedication to her field of work. "She has brought on real changes in her ministry, compared to the others," he said.
