TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The indigenous tribe Baduy who live in West Java own distinctive social life and culture, including its own woven fabric. The creativity of Baduy people in processing their fabric has inspired fashion designer of Lekat, Amanda I. Lestari to use it in the latest designs made by the label.
“I am inspired to present Kartini Movement collection,” said Amanda I. Lestari on Thursday, April 30.
Lekat introduced its latest collection that carries the theme of 'Partspective dan The Old Journey to the Nomad'. According to Amanda, the theme explores Baduy’s hand-woven fabric that is presented in pop colors and designed specially in futuristic style.
“It means that we combine traditional and modern sides without eliminating elements of culture. We hope that Lekat can promote Indonesian culture to the world,” said Amanda.
The designs look iconic by using Balinese colored yarns which were hand-woven by Baduy people. The result is luxurious beauty.
