TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After launching voice calls feature for Android handset on late March, WhatsApp is launching the feature for iPhone devices. To activate the feature, users have to update their WhatsApp application to the version 2.12.1.
After the update, a phone icon will be seen next to the profile photo in chat view. The feature enables WhatsApp users calling via internet network without being charged for phone credit. When dialing, four icons including mute, message, speaker and red phone icon will be shown.
LINE messenger had previously offered similar feature and such phone call over the internet connection, called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), has long been available on Skype and Facetime.
