TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Budi Widjanarko said his office had prepared 18,307 joint personnel to secure the May Day on May 1. He added the personnel would be deployed to places where rallies would likely take place.
“We have information that some 75,000 workers would stage a rally around Hotel Indonesia roundabout and the State Palace,” he said on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.
Budi said the police had received notification letters on the planned rallies from a number of workers union, including the KSPI, FPBI, SBSI, SPSI, FSBI, GSPMI, SPTPI and FPSI, and that the workers would rendezvous at Hotel Indonesia roundabout at around 10 a.m. before marching to the State Palace.
Budi added the police would also prepare a site for the workers to conduct Friday prayers on May Day, and that the workers would split after the rally in front of the palace, as a music concert had also been planned at Bung Karno Sports Stadium.
Budi explained the Jakarta Police also planned to execute traffic engineering to anticipate possible traffic congestion the workers’ rally would cause. “The streets heading to the Palace will be closed, and traffic engineering will be carried out in the vicinity of the Palace and the National Monument.”
