TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta City Administration is set to continue the islands reclamation project at Jakarta Bay. Chief of the Governor’s Team for Development Acceleration, Sarwo Handayani, said that there is no more debate on project.
Sarwo said that the permit was based on Presidential Regulation No. 52/1995 on Reclamation of the Northern Coast of Jakarta. “The regulation cites that reclamation is governor’s authority and it is lex specialist,” he said.
Sarwo said that reclamation, which was initiated in 1986, aims to add more ground for infrastructure. It then adapted into the development of 17 islands with flood canal to following several impacts that devastated the city.
The reclamation policy itself will be strengthened with Coastal and Island Zone Planning. “The two regulations are currently under discussion with the board,” said Head of Regional Planning Agency, Tuty Kusumawati. She added that the zone planning will emphasize on waters, as well as spatial planning of the 17 islands.
